A Saniflo or macerator unit is what makes a toilet, basin or shower possible where there is no gravity connection to the main soil pipe — in a basement, loft conversion, garage conversion or en-suite. When it fails, the whole bathroom goes out of use, which is why our engineers carry common spares and aim to diagnose and fix the fault in one visit wherever possible.
Most macerator problems are repairable — you rarely need a brand-new unit. Our engineers diagnose the fault first and replace only the parts that have actually failed, using genuine components. Common faults we fix:
Humming but not flushing — a jammed impeller or a blockage (often wipes, sanitary products or limescale)
Running constantly / won't switch off — a worn membrane, pressure chamber or microswitch
Won't start at all — electrical fault, failed microswitch or seized motor
Slow draining or backing up — partial blockage in the unit or discharge pipe
Leaking from the base or pipework — perished seals or a cracked housing
Bad smells — trapped waste, a dry trap or a unit overdue for descaling
If a repair genuinely isn't economical — usually a failed motor — we'll tell you straight and quote for a like-for-like replacement before doing any work.
Planning a new cloakroom, en-suite or downstairs WC where there's no easy drainage? A macerator lets you add a toilet, basin or shower almost anywhere by pumping waste up and across to the nearest suitable connection. We install for:
✔️ Basement and cellar conversions
✔️ Loft conversions and second bathrooms
✔️ Garage and outbuilding conversions
✔️ En-suites away from the main soil stack
✔️ Utility rooms, kitchens and downstairs cloakrooms
We'll advise on the right unit for the job, run the discharge pipework correctly to avoid future blockages, and make sure any connected basin, shower or dishwasher is properly handled.
We repair and install all the main macerator brands, including Saniflo (Sanipro, Saniplus, Sanibest, Saniaccess, Sanivite, Sanicompact and Saniwall ranges), as well as Stuart Turner, Grundfos Sololift2 and other makes. "Saniflo" is often used to mean any macerator — whichever you have, we can help.

A well-maintained unit lasts around 10–15 years. The single biggest cause of breakdowns is flushing the wrong things — wet wipes (even "flushable" ones), sanitary products, cotton pads and kitchen roll all jam the blades. Stick to toilet paper, and descale periodically in hard-water areas. We can service an existing unit as part of a visit.
A hum with no flush usually means the impeller is jammed or the unit is blocked — often by wipes, sanitary products or limescale. The motor is trying to run but can't turn. In most cases we can clear it and return the unit to normal service rather than replace it.
Most faults — blockages, a failed membrane or pressure chamber, a worn microswitch or a leaking seal — are repairable with genuine parts. We only recommend replacement when the motor has failed or the unit is beyond economical repair, and we'll tell you honestly which applies.
Constant running is usually a fault in the pressure chamber, membrane or microswitch that tells the unit when to stop — or a slow leak keeping the water level up. It's worth looking at promptly, as running non-stop can burn out the motor.
Yes — that's exactly what a macerator is for. It lets you add a toilet, basin or shower in basements, lofts, garage conversions and en-suites away from the main soil stack by pumping waste to the nearest suitable connection.
It depends on the fault and any parts needed. We never charge a call-out fee and are transparent about pricing before we start — call 07904 847 696 for a quick estimate.
